The Human Language Analysis Beings (HLAB) develops human-centered language processing techniques, pushing the bounds for:
- artificial intelligence-based (AI) language understanding, and
- improving the accurate assessment and understanding of human and social psychological health.
Utilizing natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) techniques we seek to develop and evaluate AI techniques for the benefit of human individuals and social groups. We aim to discover new behavioral and psychological factors of health and well-being as manifest through language in social media. Housed in computer science and published regularly in AI - NLP venues, we seek to be truly interdisciplinary, also disseminating our work in psychological and medical research venues. The HLAB attempts to change the way natural language processing is done to focus more on the humans behind the language and change the way psychological and health research is done by introducing rigorous data-driven and behavior-based assessments which unlock answers to big questions elusive with traditional techniques.
The HLAB is currently recruiting PhD students under the advisement of H. Andrew Schwartz and Ryan Boyd.
